(Jakarta Post) Peace Deal Between Coalition Reached

The Red-and-White Coalition (KMP) has reached a peace deal with the Great Indonesia Coalition (KIH) at the House of Representatives, a senior lawmaker says.

Senior Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) lawmaker Pramono Anung said that the KMP led by the Gerindra Party had given more than 16 leadership posts in the House’s internal bodies to his coalition, namely the KIH.

“Our deal is that the KIH and the KMP respect each other. It is reflected in the structure of leadership posts that the two coalitions have made together,” he said on Monday as quoted by kompas.com.

Pramono, along with PDI-P treasurer Olly Dondokambey, reportedly was in the front line in lobbying KMP officials in a bid to end the rift between the two coalitions.

Simmering tension between rival coalitions in the House of Representatives boiled over at the end of October, with the dueling camps at the legislative body each establishing its own leadership of the House and internal bodies.

The KIH previously demanded 16 posts, but such a demand was not accommodated by the KMP.

Therefore, the KIH protested against the KMP by creating a separate House leadership, with Pramono appointed as speaker and the National Awakening Party’s (PKB) Abdul Kadir Karding, the United Development Party’s (PPP) Syaifullah Tamliha, the NasDem Party’s Patrice Rio Capella and Hanura’s Dossy Iskandar Prasetyo serving as deputy speakers.
