(JakGlobe) KIH-KMP Make Peace, Will Share Chairmanship Commissions and Other Bodies

12/12/2018

The two rival coalitions of parties at the House of Representatives have finally found a way to settle their conflict, deciding to divide leadership positions of the various commissions and other legislative bodies to prevent a deadlocked legislature.

President Joko Widodo’s Awesome Indonesia Coalition (KIH) and Prabowo Subianto’s Red-White Coalition (KMP) on Monday announced that they had reached an agreement.

Pramono Anung, a senior politician of Joko’s Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), said there were three points of agreement between the two coalitions.

The first is that both coalitions will be represented in the leadership of all House commissions and other bodies.

Second, there will be a revision of House regulations before Dec. 5.

“Hopefully on Thursday there’ll be a plenary meeting, and then we can discuss a revision of the Law on Legislative Bodies and the [House] regulation,” Pramono said.

The third point is that both coalitions agree to start focusing on working with the government as soon as possible.

Idrus Marham, from the Golkar Party, which is part of the KMP, confirmed the deal.

“Our friends from the KIH will get leadership positions in every commission, that’s our commitment,” Idrus said.
