(Tempo) Before Meeting about Liquor Banned Law on DPR: No More Liquors in Mini Mart Starting April 16

12/12/2018

Starting on April 16, the whole mini marts in Jakarta are prohibited to sell alcoholic beverages below five percent. The ban is a follow-up of Trade Ministry's Decree, Antara News reported.

"We have socialized the Trade Ministry's Decree on alcohol ban. Most mini mart owners agreed to stop the shipment of alcohol. Right now, they just spend the existing stock," said Head of Jakarta Micro, Small and Medium Cooperatives Department (KUMKMP), Joko Kundaryo.

Kundaryo explained the decree mentions that each mini mart which still sells alcohol type beer dated on April 16, 2015, will be sanctioned, ranging from confiscation until business license revocation. Sanction would be given after the warning letter was sent three times.

"If they (minimart) still sell alcohol, we will give sanction first. But if it happens three times, we will coordinate with the licensor side, either mayor or Tourism Department," he stressed.

Previously, the mini mart was prohibited to sell the alcohol type A by Trade Minister, Rachmat Gobel prohibited. The liqour type A is a drink with alcohol content less than five percent, such as beer, dark beer and alcohol soft drinks.
