(Tempo English) Dossy Iskandar-Hanura: Fuel Price Hike is Unavoidable
Dossy Iskandar, lawmaker and chairman of the People’s Conscience (Hanura) Party Faction at the House of Representative, said increasing fuel prices was the decision that needed to be taken by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
The Decision, Dossy said, would be taken by anyone who is sitting on the presidential seat, including Prabowo. The question was, Dossy said, how the government would manage the fuel subsidy reallocation.
“The decision was unavoidable,” Dossy told Tempo on Sunday, November 23, 2014.
Dossy made the comment as a response to a plan initiated by Prabowo’s coalition at the House of Representatives, to use an interpellation right following Jokowi’s decision to increase fuel prices. According to Dossy, Hanura was in intensive communications with factions that were planning to use their interpellation rights.
“We will continue to communication efforts to convince them about the fuel price hike,” Dossi added.
According to Dossy, the interpellation right would be unnecessary if the government was able to explain the reason behind the policy. Dossy revealed that the House would invite the government to explain the fuel price hike decision following commitment talks between Jokowi’s coalition and Prabowo’s coalition at the House of Representatives.
