(tempo english) Jokowi Urges Indonesian Investors to Invest in Myanmar

12/12/2018

President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo urged Indonesian investors in Myanmar to focus on three sectors: mining, telecommunication, and infrastructure. The issue was addressed by President Jokowi during a bilateral meeting with President Thein Sein of Myanmar at the Myanmar International Convention Center on Wednesday, November 12, 2014.

"We will continue to push state-owned enterprises and private sectors to invest in Myanmar, particularly in the mining, telecommunication, and infrastructure sector," said Jokowi in Nay Pyi Taw.

Indonesia, said the president, will also consider to cooperate with Myanmar in two other sectors: finance and transportation. "We want to emphasize the importance of the cooperation in the transportation sector [by] opening a direct flight from Indonesia to Myanmar," he said.

The other form of cooperation will be transfer of Indonesia’s skilled workers in the construction sector to Myanmar. "Indonesia is ready to cooperate with Myanmar and prepare skilled workforce. As an example, a number of skilled construction workers are ready to be sent to Myanmar to work on the project," said Jokowi.

The cooperation is a form of Indonesia's commitment to increase ASEAN's unity and implement the ASEAN Economic Community 2015.
