(Tempo English) MPR Speakers Zulkifli Agrees on Reallocation Fuel Subsidy
People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speakers Zulkifli Hasan has said that he agrees with the fuel price hike, as it helps divert subsidy to other sectors. "The subsidy failed to reach its target. Therefore, diversion is a proper thing to do," said Zulkifli.
Zulkifli claimed that he has not discussed the matter with his colleagues in MPR. Despite agreeing the policy, he still questioned the timing and the amount of fuel price hike.
Therefore, he then asked the House to tighten excessive budget posture from subsidy diversion. “We need to tighten the budget posture," he said.
Previously, President Joko Widodo has announced fuel price hike last night, causing premium and diesel fuel to increase by Rp2,000 per liter. The government claims that fuel price hike can help save State Budget up to Rp120 trillion.
