(tempo english) PKS Lawmaker Slams Minister's Notion of Erasing Religion Section
Aboe Bakar Al Habsy from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) Faction criticized Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo's policy on removing the religion section in the Indonesian ID card. "This is against Pancasila," said Aboe Bakar.
Aboe said that the absence of the religion section will cause a problem when an official is going to be sworn-in. State officials are sworn-in in accordance to their religion, given that the rank he runs is not a mere social contract but also a promise made to the almighty.
Moreover, Aboe said that the religion seciton in an ID card matters in terms of providing legal testimony, marital affair, and even funeral. If it is removed, Aboe said that there will be no more legal framework that can be used to address the aforementioned matters.
On the other hand, the Minister of Home Affairs said that the government will not force Indonesian citizens to believe in a religion predetermined by the government. Tjahjo said that Indonesia is not a religious nation, therefore it respects all kinds of beliefs.
