(Tempo) Kardaya Warnika: Scrap the Cilamaya Port project and maintain Pertamina’s gas pipeline
Kardaya Warnika, the chief of the House of Representatives' Commission VII overseeing energy and mineral resources, said Tuesday he was against the planned Cimalaya port project in Karawang, West Java.
According to Kardaya, the commission will urge Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman said to scrap the project and maintain Pertamina’s gas pipeline in Cilamaya.
“The gas pipeline should be maintained. We’re urging the Transportation Ministry to relocate the project,” Kardaya said after a discussion in Jakarta on Tuesday, March 10, 2015.
The discussion was held by a non-government organization (NGO) called the People’s Movement Rejecting Cilamaya Port. The NGO claimed as a representative of Cilamaya farmers and fishermen, who felt threatened by the project.
Kardaya said the project site was located at the center of the Pertamina’s Off Shore North West Java gas pipeline. He suggested that the project be relocated to either Indramayu or Cirebon.
Earlier, National Development Planning Minister Andrinof Chaniago said the Cilamaya Port Project was ready to resume. However, Andrinof balked at detailing the plan since he was still waiting for President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s go-ahead.
